Join Alison on her yearly trip to the beautiful Kalkan, Turkey. This is one of Alison's favourite destinations to go on holiday and we don't blame her with the stunning scenery, quaint cafes and friendly locals, this is the perfect destination to relax
Who did you fly with?
We flew direct with TUI from Aberdeen Airport to Dalaman
Did you get any connecting transport from the airport?
We got a luxury private car for two when we arrived in Dalaman to transport us to our hotel.
How was the journey?
Everything was on time and we arrived early. We booked the Northern Lights Lounge at Aberdeen airport. All flights were on time and good.
Where did you stay?
Happy Hotel in Kalamar hotel
What was your stay like? Did you enjoy it?
We upgraded to a full sea view room for the stunning sunsets, they have huge balconies or terraces available. The hotel had a semi-Olympic-sized pool and fabulous meals. The staff could not do enough for us
Did you receive any special service/treatment?
Fully decorated room with wine and fruit for my sister-in-law's birthday. They also allowed us to stay in the room until pick-up time on our return!
Any recommendations?
Patara Prince Spa, picked us up by car and took us back to our hotel with their pick-up and drop-off service.
On the day of arrival, we had a traditional exfoliation spa and on the last day a sultan aroma therapy massage prior to departure. There are so many lovely spas in the town. We chose Patara Prince on a recommendation and for the pickup service
Where did you go?
The Thursday market day for bargains! We went on a boat trip on Kalkan’s famous Sea Bella.
We went swimming in crystal clear bays and enjoyed lunch and afternoon tea included on the ship for approx £30 per person
What did you see/do?
Had dinner in the quirky Fidanka Hotel in Kisla area of Kalkan.
How was the weather?
The weather was a perfect average of 38 degrees every day.
Did you go to any local restaurants/cafes?
Yes, so many to choose from and mostly rooftop
What did you enjoy eating/drinking?
Ate out most evenings in some of the MANY restaurants in Kalkan, many of which are roof terraces with spectacular views over the town and sea.
Did you try any new dishes?
Love the slow-cooked lamb and sea bass with prawns which were my 2 favourites.
I also recommend The Botanik Garden bar for a strawberry daiquiri!
Would you recommend this holiday and who to?
Kalkan is mostly filled with villas that are self-catering but the few hotels there tend to be small and due to the number of restaurants are not all-inclusive but tend to be bed & breakfast basis. It is a hilly resort, not really suitable for the less mobile and attracts couples but I would recommend it for honeymooners and some families. Once a sleepy fishing village, it now buzzes with life, particularly in July and August. The best months in my opinion are June and September but continue to get good weather into October. It is an excellent resort for ‘foodies’ with so many fantastic restaurants. It is one of my favourite places in the world.
