Who did you fly with?
Outbound - Sri Lankan Airlines from Heathrow to Male via Colombo
Inbound – Qatar from Male to Heathrow via Doha
I flew from Inverness on a through ticket with one world connection
Did you get any connecting transport from the airport?
On the way home I jumped on the train at Inverness Airport back to Elgin as the connection worked in well
Did anything memorable happen?
Unfortunately, on the outbound my connection from Inverness – Heathrow was delayed and I missed my connection. I should have been on the BA direct flight from Heathrow – Male. BA were brilliant and before I had landed they had re-protected me on the flight with Sri Lankan airlines. I was on my way just 3.5 hours after landing. My luggage also made it to Male with me
Where did you stay?
Finolhu – Baa Atoll
Four Seasons Lanadaa Giraavaru
Baros Maldives
Were there any special features?
In the Four Seasons every guest receives their own push bike to get around the island, the bikes are personalised with your initials – a nice little touch. In Finolhu I stayed in a water bungalow with my own pool
Where did you go?
We went snorkelling with turtles from Four Seasons – around a 3 hour trip on a boat. While staying at Baros we went snorkelling with sharks on the hotels house reef. The hotel will happily supply all the equipment. Whilst staying at Finolhu we went for a sunset cruise on the hotels catamaran. Watching the sunset whilst sipping champagne was a good way to end our stay here.
What was the weather like?
Daily temps of 30+, it was quite humid, due to the monsoon season – I'm yet to have seen a rain drop yet! The best time of year to travel is December – April. I wouldnt be put off travelling out with these times though.
Any recommendations?
Sunrise yoga – we got up at 7am to take part in yoga on the beach as the rise was rising – such a calm you to start your day.
Did you go to any local restaurants/cafes? What did you enjoy eating/drinking?
Crab shack – Finolhu. We went here for lunch. A must whilst staying. A very relaxed atmosphere, set on the beach. You can reach from the hotel by a 10 minutes boat journey, or a walk along the sand bank. Fresh Guacamole is prepared at your table. I can also recommend the crab tacos.
Would you recommend this holiday and who to?
Before travelling to the Maldives a big concern was ‘is there enough to do’ ‘will I be bored?’ I can honestly say that was not the case. There are lots of activitives to take part in – or not. With over 160 resorts in the Maldives there really is something for everyone.
